Curiosities about graphic design

 


  • The first known manifestations of graphic design date from between 15,000 and 10,000 BC. and it is a series of pictograms found in Lascaux, a cave in the south of France.
  • Christmas cards, a classic design today, were born in 1843 and it was John Horsley Callcott who drew the first one to be sent.
  • The first company dedicated to design was the one created by William Morris, founder of the Art & Crafts movement, in 1891.
  • Many medieval copyists could neither read nor write, surprisingly, but they worked simply by copying the shape of letters.
  • The highest amount paid for a logo amounted to $1,280,000,000. This money was paid for the Symantec company logo.
  • The man known as the “Michelin man” has a name, Monsieur Bibendum, and he also starred in an animated film called Logorama, which even won an Oscar.
  • There are dozens of logos with secrets, such as the Carrefour C, the Toblerone bear or the FedEx arrow.
  • The Nike logo was the work of a design student. At first the American company did not give it much importance and they accepted it despite not being particularly happy with the design. By the way, the price was 35 dollars.

    1. My biggest motivation for writing the blog was to be able to convey important information about the graphic design profession and let them know what the possible benefits of it are.
